Olive Rose

Olive Rose

Have you ever wanted something so deeply and for so long when the miracle finally happens, it is hard to believe.  Well, pinch me...
my new little companion, a sweet little Havanese girl named Olive Rose, was born just 4 short days ago.

Today, I had the privilege of having the pick of the litter and chose this golden chocolate little one. Does she just melt your heart?

For several years, I have waited patiently (sometimes impatiently)  for my hubby to give me his blessing to add a puppy to our family.  Four months ago I received that blessing and after an extensive search for a reputable Havanese breeder here in California, I found one in Auburn.

During the last few months I have had fun buying everything from toys, puppy gates, crate, collars, car seat...you name it in preparation for the arrival of Miss Olive.  She will come home the end of September.  Olive will be my very first dog as an adult.  So, I have a lot of surprises in store I am sure.  I may be calling upon you for support from time to time.

Well, I will keep this short as it is late and I must get off to sleep.  I was just so excited to share this little bundle of joy with you.  If any of you have any tips and suggestions on being a puppy mom, I would appreciate your advice.  I am so grateful to my friends who have supported me through this journey.  How fun it will be to now have play dates with our little friends.

I will dream of puppy dog kisses to come.

I was so glad I was there with you when you got to choose Olive Rose. SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! I think you made the right choice as she stole your heart from the get go... I know you will be an awesome Puppy Mom & "Uncle D" will be great with her once he gets over putting on his big "front". Look how great he was with Elle!!!! Thank you again for an AMAZING week of fun, fellowship & love. You guys are the best. We'll miss you. Keep those baby photos coming!!!! HUGS!

She's lovely - and the chocolate's are rare! My great dane and I lived across the street from a Havanese breeder, and my gentle giant loved to visit those little bundles of fun. What a super personality they have! Congratulations!

Om my goodness, I need to scoop up my melted heart off the floor. Something about puppies, and their breath....sigh. Have never heard of a Havanese before, going to have to look it up.

I can give you one tip for potty training - hang bells on the door and ring them and touch their nose or paw, telling them "potty" each time you go out and before you know it they will be telling you they have to go. For a while when our standard poodle was a pup and confined in the kitchen with gates we put bells there too - worked like a charm and in a matter of weeks we were accident free. Of course he didn't have free roam of the house for a while after that. ; )

Oh,Diana, What a dear little puppy Olive Rose is.
I just had a friend here last week with her dog, a black and white Havanese. He was a charmer and very well behaved. Very sweet.
Enjoy her puppyhood. I have no advise except to give her lots of love. She will return that love with unconditional devotion and trust.
She's a beautiful puppy that will be a wonderful companion.
ENJOY HER!

So excited for you Diana. Olive Rose is delicious and beautiful.
We adopted our rescues as pups and found that regular timed walks (4x daily) and a tiny treat when they did good worked really well and fairly quickly. Other than that, all they need is lots of love, hugs and kisses which should be easy with that little one. The rest is natural and intuitive. You'll do great! Hope some day to meet her.

How lovely Diane!! The Havanese is related to the Bichon... my favorite breed. I've always LOVED the Havanese and love that they come in different colors! I'm so excited for you. And my parents live in Auburn! Of course I love it there. Will be happy to check back and watch all your soon-to-be posts of your new baby. Congrats and much love xo Holly

Congratulations...she is so very sweet! I recommend "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by the Monks of New Skete. It has always been my go to book for puppy questions and it really makes you think like a dog. You come to understand why they do what they do!

OMG! melt your heart is an understatement, i discovered the dog world after our 4 adult kids moved out, i now have 6 dogs! don't ask me how that happened except that they are truly my best friends/companions and every one of them as a puppy slept with us! never had any potty training problems, every time they wake up, out side you take them and i always would say, "pee, pee" and they still will go out and pee pee on command! dogs are so smart and such great family members as long as they are loved like all living creatures should be! sorry i wrote so much but this is what happens when i start talking about dogs! my family thinks i am a ittle nuts! aloha, angi in hana

Oh, Diana, it took me 14 years to convince my husband to let me get a dog - and it took him a few years to truly fall in love with her, but he is DEEP now. That puppy is the cutest thing ever. You will LOVE having a dog. Get a crate; you can live with NO accidents if they are crate-trained and come out to play & walk. I housetrained a stubbborn Shih Tzu in about 10 days by taking her outside very 30 mins and saying the "code word" that we decided upon, "Toilette"(in a French accent; she is from Montreal and knew her commands in French already). That devoted chunk of time - catching her nearly everytime she needed to go- trained her beautifully. You will NEVER want to travel for a class again! Good luck. Oh, the best book is by "The Monks of New Skeet" who raise and train German Shepherd. Their dogs are INCREDIBLY well behaved. :D Susan T.

love, love, love your new addition....Miss Olive Rose, I have been most fortunate to have 3 maltase in my life. all the pee pee advise from above is on target. I will also say see what the vet tells you with daily cleaning (like the eyes) AlSO BRUSH HER TEETH EITHER EVERY DAY OR EVERY OTHER.... IT WILL SAVE BOTH OF YOU THE DRAMA AND EXPENSE OF HAVING HER TEETH CLEANED... IT'S SO EASY TO TEACH THEM WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG....... GOOD LUCK AND HUGS BZ HOPE I GET TO SEE YOU AT ART IS...

So excited for you & Olive Rose.....we have 2 Labradoodles, now 12 & 9!....I was the one who didn't want a pet , but my husband was smart, on the way home from picking her up from airport ( she flew from VA.) he had me hold onto her in my arms , shaking a little nervously from trip, of course mom instincts come right into play & by the time we were home , she was fast asleep on my chest & I was in-LOVE<3....we both worked out a schedule & after 3 yrs decided she needed a sister! Can't imagine life without them... You have so much love ahead of you, you can't even imagine.... God bless, Irene L.
