Petite Retreat

Here is my little spokesmodel again, Marpessa, sporting a new hair style and frock announcing yet another event for this summer.  I would like to invite you to join me for three fun-packed, creative-packed days the first weekend in June.

I have planned this 3-day event around one of San Luis Obispo's most fantabulous antique fairs, Remnants of the Past.  Please follow the link to Remnants' site to read more about this shopping extravaganza.  Judy Watkins, creator of Remnants, hand picks her vendors....each an artist in their own right.  The displays are fantastic, treasures to behold outstanding, atmosphere amazing, food luscious... I could go on and on....and on top of that, a portion of the proceeds go to support our local Women's Shelter.    As a result of Remnants being hailed through numerous publications (Country Living, Romantic Homes, Los Angeles Times, and Rachel Ashwell...the shabby chic queen herself), this event has garnered attendees from all over the united states.  A not-to-be-missed antique fair in the "happiest place to live" location on the central coast of California....San Luis Obispo.

Petite Retreat will begin on Friday, June 1, as everyone gathers in my studio for  my Briar Rose Shrine Pendant class.

Using assemblage and dimensional soldering techniques, your Briar Rose will take on a fairy-tale essence as she is encased in glass and solder.  Let the fashionista in you shine as you design your Briar Rose's couture gown...the theme, color and content left up to your imagination.  Students will learn basic soldering (with a soldering iron), assemblage, collage, metal stamping, making of rosettes and bird's nests. Your Briar Rose can be worn as a pendant by adding a chain or put on a stand on display....or both. There she will sleep waiting for her prince to brave the forest of briars to awaken her with a kiss...and everyone will live happily ever after.

On Saturday, the second day of Petite Retreat, everyone will meet at the Madonna Inn Convention Center as a group to explore the wonders of Remnants of the Past antique fair and find inspirational treasures to incorporate into our creations.  (Entrance tickets into Remnants of the Past are included in Retreat package.)

On Sunday, students will spend recreating one of Diana's signature pieces... A Bird in Hand and exploring the wonders of your soldering iron.

Come and learn how to create soldered jewelry components that look like fine silver clay, create texture on solder, drill through ceramic and stone, how to use resin as an adhesive, create seed bead flower vines and basic wire wrapping techniques.

Well, have I succeeded in enticing you to come and play with me for three days this summer??  Hope so.  I would love to have you join me....I can't wait.  My studio is small and space is don't delay in securing your spot. Reservations may be made by contacting me via email:

On another note, only two more days until I draw the lucky winner of my Heart to Heart Tutorial Giveaway....see post below. Thank you all for your amazing support of my first tutorial effort.  I so appreciate you all!!!!
